Cervix Assessment

The cervix can be measured and assessed very accurately by a vaginal scan at any stage of pregnancy. Changes in the cervical length and shape precede silent premature labour and abortion in women who typically give a history of previous miscarriage after 13 weeks, who have had 2 or more cervical treatments for pre-cancer and those who have a history of premature labours.

It is now known there is about a 2 week window before labour sets in when there is weakness of the cervix.

A vaginal ultrasound scan can provide early enough warning for steps to be taken to save a pregnancy.  Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns.

An Important Scan To Take When You Are Pregnant: Cervix Assessment

A cervical scan is generally prescribed to all women, but particularly to women who have had a history of premature birth or miscarriages.  This assesses the state of your cervix, measuring the length and shape, determining if a woman is in danger of premature labor or a miscarriage.  A vaginal ultrasound assesses your cervix and ensures that your pregnancy is carried to full term.
